The Science in Health Live team of the School of Medicine, Cardiff University is back with its Public Lecture Series. On Thursday 17th October 2024, 7pm the online webinar via Zoom will take place. The public lecture is titled: What can we learn from rare diseases? By Dr Elaine Dunlop, Cardiff University (In conjunction with Wales Gene Park)
Some medical conditions are considered ‘rare’ and can be largely overlooked by the medical and scientific professions. However, collectively 1 in 17 people will be affected by a rare disease at some point in their life. For many of these rare diseases, we do not fully understand the cellular faults that lead to disease.
This talk will focus on why it is important to study rare diseases and the implications that findings from rare disease research may have for the wider population.
